When I woke up, I heard voices. I sat up with a jolt.

As my vision focused, I saw You Yan removing his makeup. Next to him stood a tall man, staring straight at me.
He looked familiar. I remembered he was an alpha—my sister used to binge-watch his dramas. What was his name… Fu—
“Fu Mo, if there’s nothing else, you can leave.”
“You haven’t agreed yet.”
You Yan suddenly sneered, “Don’t even think about it.”
Fu Mo raised his voice a bit, “Why not? You’re free for the next two days. Why can’t I borrow your bodyguard?”
I watched them bicker, and a thought popped into my head.
Could these two be… that kind of relationship?
I knew a lot of alphas and omegas had regular partners to help each other through their heat.
So right now, am I… witnessing something I shouldn’t?
While they weren’t paying attention, I quietly slipped out. Not long after, Fu Mo came out of the lounge, face dark.
That was fast.
Is it Fu Mo who’s not up to it, or You Yan?
But as a bodyguard, this wasn’t my business to gossip about. I lowered my eyes and stood aside, but Fu Mo stopped in front of me.
“How much is You Yan paying you?”
“Huh?”
“He’s stingy. I bet he’s not paying you much.” He leaned in, lowered his voice, and held up a number. “I’ll pay you this much a month. Come work for me. My current bodyguards are useless.”
So that’s what they were arguing about… Trying to poach me right in front of You Yan, no wonder he was pissed.
I hesitated. I wanted to say You Yan pays me more than that per day, but that would make me sound greedy.
Besides, why would an alpha need a beta like me for protection? Is he messing with me?
“Thanks for the offer, but I’m not looking to change jobs right now. However…” I gave a professional smile, “If you really need help, I can fill in for a couple of days.”
Only a fool would turn down extra cash!
Fu Mo’s frown eased. He patted my shoulder, pulled out his phone, and we exchanged contacts.
